    Summary Role: Assistant Controller

    The role of the Assistant Controller is one with a strong background in an Accounting management functional role and proficient knowledge in Accounting, Accounts Payable, and monthly and year-end cyclical accounting reporting. The qualified person for this position will have a proven successful track record in an Accounting management role, handling the day-to-day Assistant Controller functions and responsibilities while maintaining good communication and reporting relationships with multiple departments, field management, outside investors/relationships, and Company Personnel at all levels.


    Key Essential Functions & Area of Responsibilities

    • Provide support to Controller to carry out Corporate Accounting policies and procedures
    • Compile various monthly Corporate financials
    • Coordinate property tax appeal process for all properties
    • Manage AP personnel and AP processes
    • Manage AR function
    • Manage staff accountants who do bank reconciliations and various other miscellaneous functions that assist the Accounting department
    • Regular worksite attendance in accordance with Company’s Attendance Policy is required for this position
    • Other Duties As Assigned
      • Periodic special projects and duties may be assigned based on Company need and requirements
      • Must be able to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another, with frequent interruptions or distractions and within tight deadlines

    Qualifications Requirements        

    • Minimum 10 years of progressive Accounting experience with at least 5 years of managerial experience
    • Proficient knowledge of accrual accounting, AP process, bank reconciliations
    • Yardi software experience preferred, but not required
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, and Outlook with advanced skills in Excel highly preferred
    • Relevant experience in matters related to the property management industry
    • Ability to understand and convey Company Policies and relevant industry standards
    • Ability to handle all Accounting matters with confidentiality and timely
    • Ability to analyze and configure data for reporting purposes
    • Ability to effectively communicate while exercising diplomacy, sound judgment and tact
    • Ability to deal effectively with co-workers, department supervisors and managers, insurance brokers, insurance company representatives, attorneys, investors, and other consultants and/or vendors

    • Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
    • CPA (active or inactive) preferred, but not a requirement


    Physical Demands

    • Stationary Position: frequently remains stationary up to 90% of the time and sitting up to 8 hours
    • Move/Traverse: infrequently bend, stand, stoop and/or walk
    • Carry Weight: infrequently carry weight and/or lift objects (light to heavy) weighing up to 10 pounds
    • Hearing and Speech: frequently communicates with the ability to hear and talk on a regular basis with employees, coworkers, and all personnel matters; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
    • Sight: frequent use of sight to detect images on computer, office documents, and office objects near and far
